Where is former Proteas batting all-rounder JP Duminy now?
Former Proteas left-handed batsman JP Duminy has been in the news recently following his split from his wife Sue.
He was particularly successful in T20 cricket, scoring nearly 2,000 runs at an average of 38. While he primarily played as a middle-order batsman, he transitioned to a batting all-rounder towards the end of his career.
JP Duminy made his Test debut for the Proteas in 2008, stepping in for the injured vice-captain Ashwell Prince. In his second innings against Australia in Perth, he scored 50 not out and formed an unbroken century partnership with AB de Villiers. His performance received praise from numerous critics, including Peter Roebuck. In his next Test match, Duminy combined with the tailenders to score his maiden Test century, finishing with 166 runs.
JP Duminy took over 100 international wickets
Despite this promising start, Duminy never fully reached his potential, averaging only 32 over his 46 Test matches. In One Day Internationals, he was more consistent, achieving 27 half-centuries for the Proteas. During the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, he made history by becoming the first South African to take a hat-trick in a World Cup match. He dismissed Angelo Mathews with the last ball of one over and then took the wickets of Nuwan Kulasekara and Tharindu Kaushal with the first two balls of his next over.

In March 2023, he was appointed as the white-ball batting coach for the South African Proteas Men’s team but resigned from the role in December 2024 for personal reasons.
