World Resources Institute (WRI) Digital Communications Internship Programme 2025
,About the program:
As part of WRI’s Food, Land and Water Program, the Land and Forest initiatives aim to conserve and restore forests and other natural landscapes for their vast benefits to people, nature and climate. We develop groundbreaking research, tools and global partnerships with civil society, governments and the private sector. Our work spans several initiatives and platforms, including our flagship Global Forest Watch (GFW), a free forest monitoring initiative that allows anyone to access globally consistent, near-real-time information about where and how forests are changing around the world.

Internship Highlight:
In the internship, you will:
- Work on two major communications moments for GFW: the release of 2024 tree cover loss data and the announcement of GFW’s 2025 Small Grants Fund recipients.
- Help communicate important new data findings to shape the global narrative on forest trends; promote upcoming events and compelling stories from people using data to protect forests and landscapes,
- Hone skills in strategic messaging, visual storytelling, writing, social media, design, web content staging, web analytics, and project management.
- Gain insights into how international non-profit organizations function to create impact from research and data.
- Collaborate with teams and experts across a global organization.
- Use numerous digital tools to grow audiences, develop content, and coordinate with team members.
What you will do:
Content Development (45%):
- Help develop a communications package for the release of 2024 tree cover loss data
- Create a social media kit to announce GFW’s 2025 Small Grants Fund recipients
- Work with colleagues to draft and publish content for various channels including website and emails, social media, blogs, and other outputs as needed for events and outreach to a range of audiences
- Work with colleagues in the Land & Forests team and the WRI Core Communications team to support development of infographics, data visualizations, videos and other multimedia comms outputs.
Coordination (15%):
- Stage and schedule emails and social media content with tools like Emplifi and Ortto
- Help oversee content calendars and keep colleagues up to date on activities with tools like Asana
Attend regular meetings together with the communications team
Web Management (40%):
- Help implement web content updates using content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, as well as data visualization applications like Flourish
- Work together with colleagues to report on the effectiveness of communications campaigns, using tools like Google Analytics.
What you will need:
- Interns at WRI Europe must be registered in a study program with a Dutch college or university for the full duration of the internship
- Interns must have established approval from their University to undertake an internship before applying
- Demonstrable skills in writing clear, compelling, grammatically correct and accessible content about a technical subject and/or people-centred stories
- Experience and/or interest in graphic design. Familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite not required, but a plus
- Experience developing engaging content for social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter/X
- Interest in web design. Familiarity with website content management systems (WordPress, Drupal) not required, but a plus
- Strong organization and task management skills
- Creativity, adaptivity, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in protecting Earth’s ecosystems
- Verbal and written proficiency in English.
Conditions of the internship:
- This is a 6 month internship with a start date of March 10 2025.
- This internship will be based at the WRI Europe office in the Hague with some flexibility to work from home.
- This internship offers a reimbursement of 700 euros per month based on full-time working hours (32 hours per week).
