Position Overview

The Statistical Modeller will play a crucial role in designing and implementing sophisticated statistical models to analyze Annual Impact Measurement (AIM) data. This data provides vital insights into the effectiveness of programs targeting the most vulnerable children. By extracting meaningful patterns and relationships within large datasets, the modeller will inform strategic decisions at both global and local levels, ultimately helping to maximize impact.

Core Responsibilities

The primary focus of the role is to analyze large, complex datasets derived from AIM surveys using advanced statistical techniques such as regression analysis, generalized linear models (GLM), causal inference, and propensity score matching. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting exploratory data analysis to understand dataset structure.
  • Cleaning and preprocessing data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Performing hypothesis testing guided by sector leads and programmatic stakeholders.
  • Applying advanced models to identify impact drivers and meaningful insights.
  • Developing predictive models, such as time series analysis, to forecast trends.
  • Collaborating with data analysts within the AIM team to share insights and address data challenges.

In addition to analysis, the modeller will develop and maintain dashboards and reports that communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences. This involves designing interactive, user-friendly dashboards, drafting concise reports, and updating these tools regularly with new data. The role also requires translating complex statistical insights into accessible narratives, supporting stakeholders through workshops, training, and comprehensive documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should possess a minimum of 6-8 years of experience in statistical modelling, with a proven ability to deliver actionable insights. A Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field is required. Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R or Python, along with expertise in SPSS, is essential. Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI, survey design, and data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox is highly desirable.

Key skills include:

  • Strong understanding of causal inference techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, candidates with knowledge of machine learning techniques, impact measurement frameworks, and survey methodology will have an advantage. Experience with data quality assurance and a solid grasp of impact evaluation principles will further enhance a candidate’s fit for this role.
